We had the pleasure of interviewing Daniela Ebejer, who is the manager at Melita Health and Beauty to gain a little more insight to the business transactions between Social media influencers and the beauty industry.

Daniela mentions some interesting points here. But to make it slightly more conceptual here’s some communications jargon for you. We’ve spoken about Stuart Hall’s encoding and decoding model a million times throughout our years at University. But, what’s his model really about? No biggie. In simple terms, it merely explains how media messages are produced, circulated and consumed.


In brief, both the producer and the audience have very specific roles in this. Producers or encoders, on the one hand, are those creating the content. Decoders, on the other hand, represent those receiving whatever is being produced.

When you decode a message, you give meaning to the message in ways that make sense to you. And, this explains why interpretation can change from person to person.
